Good morning all.
The summer is soon over and we are again approaching winter. Autumn is around the corner and I have to say, there is a lot of great things with autumn. One of them being IKEA’s big launch of new items and their new catalogue for the coming year. The catalogue is perhaps not that relevant anymore, but the new items still tend to keep the old timeline in launch throughout a year.
It is interesting seeing what IKEA is now launching for 2021, maybe the most interesting observation is that it appears IKEA is taking inspiration from of the most common ‘IKEA hacks’ – you can especially see this in the added items to the IVAR collection. IVAR is a selection of furniture items in plain wooden colour, enabling the buyer to custom paint and design the piece. Maybe the Swedish designers are also hanging out on Pinterest like the rest of us?
Rattan and bamboo also seem to be a trend that IKEA continues with and there are clear inspirations from the 80s now entering the interior and décor retail space.
Here are my two favorites from this year collection:
Galjon Pendant Lamp
The first item that I really like from the new 2021 collection is the Galjon pendant lamp. It’s a style of lamp that has been seen in the more upper priced brands and it’s great to now see options to buy this style for a more of an affordable lamp. This lamp works really well in a hallway, over a staircase or over a kitchen island.
New Rattan IVAR door
Similar to the Stockholm collection from 2017, has IKEA also launched a new door option that can be used in the IVAR collection in a rattan style. It’s not only these wooden doors they are launching, but also a black metallic door option. I really like that you can buy them as doors, so if you already have IVAR in your home, can you easily upgrade the look with just changing the doors.
The Gladelig Tableware Collection
A new collection this year in the tableware section is the Gladelig collection.
The collection has brass or golden colour rims on the top with a white rustic look which has some gray to it. I really like the mix between the classic style and polished design – the golden rim and the more casual rustic white tone. A perfect item in a Boohoo-glam home.
The collection has 8 different items, including mug, plates and bowl. My preferred items are definitely the bowls.
Forsegla Coasters
As mentioned, IKEA is launching a large set of items in bamboo, this little item is one of them. The forsegla coaster is minimalistic and can work in any minimalistic, Scandinavian, Farmhouse or Boohoo home. The coaster can also to be used on top of IKEA glasses, to “seal” the mug or glass, therefore it’s given the name Forselga (Swedish; sealing).
Scoop set
Another great little item that IKEA has added to their collection is the IKEA 365+ Scoop set. These 2 scoops, made from stainless steel, are a great add to any kitchen and have a timelessness about them – even my grandmother had scoops like this. A propper classic at an affordable price.
Lurpassa boxes
Something IKEA is good at is storage containers and boxes. IKEA has added some new items in this collection with Lurpassa being one of my favourites. The boxes come as a set of 2 and are made out of seagrass. A perfect storage container for items in the bathroom.
Sanela Pillows
I think it is a common knowledge that IKEAs textile department has in the past not always been the most preferred department to spend your money on. But this season, IKEA have brought out some really great items with the Sanela pillow cover being one of them. The pillow cover has a cotton velvet touch and comes in many colours. My favourite is the very on-trend light live green, but I also like the dark blue color and the light beige. I would recommend use with the Fjaeder pillows to give them a lot of softness and comfort.
Smagora Bookshelf and Changing tray
Sometimes, it can be smart to check out the childrens department, even when you do not have children. This bookshelf and changing tray is definitely one to check out. It can be changed into a side table in a living room or maybe a bar tray / cart? And if I had a baby, I would definitely get my hands on this.
Hindas Mirror
Yes, the 80s décor is definitely back in trend, if we are going to base our judgement on this item, the Hindas Mirror. The mirror is made out of rattan and has a circular shape. The Hindas mirror can work in multiple rooms, like the bathroom, hallway or bedroom. This item can also be used as a table decoration, if you dare to be creative.
Botanisk Plant Pot
For the bohemian and boohoo style people, this new plant pot made out of banana fiber is a great add to a home. This item is made by social entrepreneurs in India and is easy recyclebale and therefore ticks a lot of boxes.
Treblad Shopping Bag
Another little item that has also entered IKEA is this little blank totebag. Perhaps the bag is not that interesting looking at it in store, But I think this is a great item to pick up if you want to put your own thouch and identity on an item. This totebag is a great base for your creativity.
Opphem Mirror
The last item of the new favorites at IKEA is another mirror, this also is a rattan style mirror, but an oval shape with a softer look than the Hindas mirror. This item looks great in any home almost regardless of the look of the home. I really could see it in a hallway between two identical lamps.
That was my first recap of the new items added to the 2021 Ikea collection. What are you favourites?
