Good evening from Norway. It’s a new year, I’ve turned another year and Christmas is over. All is going back to normal again and winter is over us. But before we leave Christmas completely behind us, I wanted to share a visit I had to the Wellington Arms in Tadley on the border of Berkshire and Hampshire. The food was amazing and I would really recommend a visit. But for me it was the interior that caught my attention.
The house was painted in pale green with a pale green door and windows. I really liked the colour since it’s light enough to lift up the heavy old pub door. It also is a colour that works both in the summer and in the winter time.
The door had a beautiful wreath in dark red that worked really well with the greens – since it’s a complimentary colour. It had also been added pheasant feathers. It’s a lot of pheasants in the area and therefore made the decoration a personal touch to the pub.
Inside there was a small fireplace with a larger mantlepiece. I really like how the garland unites with the wreath with also using the pheasant feathers. The top of the mantlepiece was decorated with glass carafes of different sizes reminding us of what was possible to get on the menu to the pub.
The bar was decorated with a small Christmas tree in gold and red – matching the colours in the room. Brining in the local aspect again, own produced eggs and bottles of red drinks was placed visibly on the counter making it homely.
Also decorated on the bar counter was a filled carafe on a silver tray with small glasses. With adding a carafe on the bar counter and empty carafes on the mantlepiece, did the interior feel balanced throughout in the room. I also like how different glasses of different sizes are being used. It makes the interior feel a bit less formal which works well for a gastro pub.
Have you ever been to a pub that has given you some interior inspiration?
