I’ve always wanted to have a dressing table in my house where you can start the day in a perfect way, having all your things in order and your own space for make up, hair styling and creams.
To find your perfect dressing table for your room, follow these simple rules:
1. Be aware of the space you have for a dressing table.
Make sure that you have enough space so the table does not clash with other items in the room and become too overbearing. Unless it is a built in dressing table that naturally connects with other furniture. If you have a smaller space to work with, use a more simply designed table which creates the impression of less clutter – it is a good idea to mix this with a light chair or ottoman with visible legs.
2. Choose a style that blends with the rest of the room.
Let the colours that already exist in the room reflect in the choice of dressing table. Try not to go too far away from the existing style in the room.
3. Make sure you have good natural light.
Light is important when you want to get your make up on point. Make sure that you have a lot of natural light or a good lamp at the dressing table to achieve this.
4. Have enough storage.
Make sure that you can store away most of the items that you use easily in the draw and that it’s convenient to access when you need it. Always have what you use the most in the top draw and invest in containers inside the draws to build system. This will save you time in the morning.
5. Make the dressing table personal.
Be sure to add you perfumes on the counter, with a picture and some flowers. A calendar or a quote to help make your day start on a positive note. If you have a large dressing table and budget, you could consider including a Nespresso machine.
Here are some examples of dressing tables that I really love:
From Home Design
A beautiful large dressing table in dark wood, large mirror and a covered chair. This look works really well in houses and flats with large ceilings and where the dressing table can stand out as a centerpiece item for the room.
From Living for Pretty
A more modern look to a dressing table. This look connects modern design with the table and vintage design in the mirror. The gold on the handles, the chair and the mirror helps to connect the modern and vintage elements together. The table is from Ikea and the mirror is from Anthropologie – so an affordable option.
From Lonny Magazine
This dressing table really blends in well with the room. The window and the fireplace share similar design style with the dressing table and the chair. The lamp is more of a modern style, but works well since it is all in the same colour shade.
From HGTV
Here’s an example of a smaller dressing table built into the room. What I really like about this room is that the dressing table is in front of a window. It gives a great natural light for applying make up and also a lovely view to start the day off in a great way.
It’s key to give a dressing table character with your items. Here’s an example of a table where the perfume bottles are placed on a mirrored table. A really nice addition.

If you have space (and money) to build a custom wardrobe, you can build the dressing table into it. In this picture, you can see that the white is reflected in lamps, flowers, chair and counter and connects it all nicely together.
From Pinterest
Another example of a built-in dressing table. I really like how it’s constructed around the windows. A great option with space limitations.
From The Unstitchd
And finally, here’s a simple dressing table that can work in most young girls bedrooms. The pink is replicated in the items on the counter and the ottoman. A perfect way of binding it all together.
Have you ever considered having or updating your dressing table?
