Can you believe that is already September and we are dreaming of fall decor? Going from summer to fall has always been for me when we enter into September, but since this summer has been so different compared to other years has fall come as a bit of a surprise to me. I was perhaps not ready a couple of days ago for fall, but I getting more and more into the spirit of the fall season now, especially after doing some fall decor research.
Fall decoration always gets me into a good mood and spirit, even though is means that winter is approaching (which can be long and dark in Norway). I tend to start off the season with listening to “autumn ambiance” on YouTube while I scroll through Pinterest or while reading a novel and drink tea in some vintage china. Fall always makes me feel that a new chapter is beginning, it’s like a new year or a fresh start to something new.
In the spirit of fall decor and new beginnings, here are my favourite items to make this season magical.
1. Flowers in Fall Colors
Even if summer is over does it not mean that you cannot have flowers outside your front door or inside your house. Flowers will always put a smile on any grey fall day and really is the best way of making a home come alive.
2. Leaves from the Forest
I love to use decor that is found in nature. It makes the decor look more natural in addition to being free. This idea with just putting some branches that has turned orange in a vase is so easy that you should not feel overwhelmed at all when it comes to actually doing it. Just remember next time when you are out for a walk.
3. Red and Orange Berries for Fall Decor
An even better find from the forest walks are red and orange berries. It does not need to look exactly like these to do the trick, it’s the color that matter. If you want to mix it up, sue the berries with some bare branches or with some orange leaves. So easy to make a home look ready for fall.
4. Pumkin Candles
I really love the simplicity of these candle holders as fall decor. Mixing white and reds makes it a perfect match for a Scandinavian home that is light and airy. They can be places on a porch or they can work as a centrepiece on a table. A really great example of mixing minimalistic and fall.
5. Fall Garland
We are perhaps used to using garlands at Christmas and not so much in fall, but it is perhaps something we should start to do more of. You can try to make your own fall garland from items that you find in the forest, but if you would just want to make your life a bit easier, this fall garland from Not on the High Street is a great find.
6. Fall Wreath
Another idea similar to garland that would also be a brilliant item to decorate your home for fall is a wreath. A fall wreath would look great on any front door and make sure that you guests receive a warm welcome. Wayfair has many amazing ones with this one being my favourite. It a great way of decorating with dried flowers.
7. Blue and Orange Fall Decor
Why not mix another color for fall with a traditional fall color? Adding another color can make your home stand out in a more effective way than just doing what everyone else is doing. I love the idea of adding blue to the autumn orange. The two colors are the opposite colors on the color wheel which means that they make each other stand out. It is the same reason why red and green work so well together at Christmas.
8. Pumpkin soup bowls
I’m a big fan of amazing table setting and this pumpkin bowl with lid is the perfect addition to a fall table as a fall decor. Use them for the warm or cold soup you are serving as a starter. A perfect way of putting a smile on your guests faces.
9. Orange and red tall candles
I really love tall candles in orange, red and yellow mixed together. It makes a bohemian look to a home at the same time as making it autumnal. They can work well on a table, but also in a bedroom on a mantlepiece. I especially like the ones that are (or look) hand maid.
10. Crops as fall decor
If you live in the countryside or nearby a filed, then decorating with crops are a brilliant idea. It makes us think of fall, harvest and all the traditions that has been happening for generations. At the same time, they are also free! Just remember to take some before they are gone (late summer). If you do not have access to a field with crop, I’m sure it’s possible to buy some online.
11. Leaves in a frame
Another way to decorate for fall is to put some leaves in a frame. Try to make sure to dry the leaves inside a book before you put it in a frame. An easy way to make your home autumnal by minutes.
12. Bringing in a branch
Another way to decorate with leaves is to bring in an entire branch with leaves on and put it in a vase. I really like the one on the picture since it has so many colors. It makes it a fascinating decoration to look at.
13. Leaves in a chandelier
If you have a chandelier or a decorative lamp hanging from the ceiling, try adding some leaves to the lamp, it captures your attention straight away when you come into the room. You can use both real and fake leves to make this look good.
14. Pumpkin arch
I really love what Our Sourthen Home has done to thier front door with framing it with a pumpkin arch. It’s a great “steal” from Christmas decorations. You can make this happen easily with your own door with attaching multiple garlands.
15. Cosy corners
Not everything need to be a pumpkin to be autumnal. Fall is all about snuggle up when the temperature drops and adding a cosy corner can be as good of a decoration as any other autumnal decoration. Especially if you use earth colors that have a warm undertone.
16. An autumnal move
You can also use you TV to decorate for fall and get into the spirit. Decorating for fall is about creating a mood or a motion in your home and an autumnal move is a great way of doing this without bringing any new items into your home.
17. Snuggle in front of a fireplace
If you have a fireplace, then autumn is the season to really take the advantage of it. A fireplace is one of the best ways to make your home more autumnal. It creates an atmosphere that brings the ultimate warmth to a home with its energy and its crackling sound. If you add a surrounding with lots of yellow undertones in the colors, your home will definitely look like a place you want to snuggle up.
18. Tartan blankets
My last favorite decorating tip for the fall is a tartan blanket in fall colors like red, orange and greens. It really is an easy way to make a sofa ready for fall and to change the ambiance of a living room. I would advise to good for quality when picking a blanket like this, it will last you for many decades. A mix between wool and cashmere is my favorite.
