What I bought at IKEA summer 2020.
I love visiting IKEA, especially just before the autumn starts, it brings back memories to a time when I would regularly visit before the start of the new school term. It was a great way to freshen up a new term with some upgrades to your bedroom.
Last week, I visited IKEA at the end of my summer break. I have recently moved into a coastal village and house from the 80, moving from a 1 bedroom flat with a 4 bedroom house with a living space that will probably need 4 different sofas and 2 dining areas. This means a lot of empty space and the need of more furniture.
We viewed some funiture, like sofas, chairs, dining table etc but did not buy more than a small kitchen table. It is key that you take your time to look at the furniture, take pictures and then come home to measure the potential furniture. Using masking tape on the floor is also a good way of feeling the actual size and positioning in the room.
The key to making IKEA funiture look amazing is to find the right sized funiture that works for your home. Well placed furniture will make it look more expensive immediately.
The furniture I wanted unfortunately was not available on our visit, although I picked up a few other items for the home that I really love. These items you can easily take back in your car on the day.
Here is what I bought at IKEA
Bumerang Hanger
Something you always need in a home, or at least if you continue to buy clothes, are hangers. I really love these white ones and have bought them for IKEA before. You can get 5 for $5.49 and they will last forever. They also comes in black and a wood colours. White also always usually works very well in a Scandinavian, British styled home.
Vardagen Measuring Cup
Another usable item to get at IKEA is a measuring cup. Normally measuring cups comes in plastic, but this one from IKEA is glass. The one I bought holds 1 pint but also comes in larger sizes. A great item for the kitchen to makes the room a bit more classy.
Fenomen Unscented Block Candle
Another great item to buy at IKEA are their candles. They are very affordable and come both scented and unscented. I purchased these large white ones to have outside our dining room in the hallway. They are so large that you can even put them on the floor as decorations.
Vanligen Plant Pot
I found this new plat pot at IKEA. I really like the scallops on the top and mint colour, it works really well in a modern home. This pot looks greener on the webpage than in the flesh, but it is actually more of a mint colour. A great pot to add to a living room.
Fulländad Turner
Not perhaps the most exciting item, but having a really good turner is key if you are spending time in the kitchen. And I really like this one, it’s minimalistic and only costs $0.99. I actually like that the turner is made of plastic, it means that it doesn’t make much noice when using it. A good little item for the home.
Fantastisk Paper Napkins
I picked up these small white napkins for use when entertaining. Easy to use at any type of small gathering. From breakfast, lunch or a for a late night snack.
Green plant
What some people tend to forget when it comes to IKEA, is that they have a very large selection of plants. I picked up a Citrus plant, unfortunately this is this only sold in Europe. IKEA have similar plants in the US so I would recommend checking this department out. In particular, I really like the ginseng plant that is sold in the US.
Byhoma basket
I really like this new addition to the Byholma basket collection. It’s a great decoration piece where you can let it stand on its own or add items like newspapers or towels. A great item to also use in a hallway. This is definitely one of the items you should consider picking up.
Knagglig Box
A great storage item from IKEA is the Knagglig box. It works very well in the kitchen, in utility rooms and laundry rooms. It also comes in two different sizes and can easily be combined in a farmhouse or a Scandinavian styled home.
Variera tray
I picked up this kitchen tray from IKEA called Variera. The tray is normally used in kitchen draws to keep the kitchen items organised. But I have plans of using this tray to something else, perhaps a drinks tray?
Smula tray
I was in desperate need of a simple tray to carry items to and from home office, living room and kitchen, so I picked up this Smula tray. It has a classic shape, but in a see through white color. A perfect tray to not draw too much attention, and it was only $2.99!
