Good morning all.
HM has always been a store that I have really enjoyed – they’re always on-point with trends and keep the price at an impressively low cost. I was really exited when HM launched a Home department a few years ago. Trends come and go, therefore it’s best not to spend too much on items that will quickly fall out of fashion. HM Home is a brilliant option for adding some on trend options to your home at an affordable cost.
HM Home style can be described as minimalistic, Scandinavian and often their items have clean and defined designs. This can also be seen through their use of a lot of natural and white colours. More recently, I have noticed some more ‘romantic’ inspiration from the 80s (believe it or not!). Examples of this can be seen from the introduction of colours such as pink, flower patterns and also gold.
Here are my favourite HM Home items for late summer 2020:
Quilted Bedspread
Here is the first example of a nod to the 80s, a lovely white quilted bedspread. A bedspread can really make an impact to a bed, adding a quilted bedspread can make a bed look more luxurious and like a propper five star hotel room. White works well in most cases with any other colours – I really like to add white-on-white and then compliment with some natural colours.
Linen-Blend Napkins
Another great item from HM Home are these linen blend napkins. Getting some reusable linen napkins are a great way to reduce waste. It is also a great way to elevate a table setting. These napkins can work from an elegant and classic home to a boohoo style home, since reusable napkins makes it feel more polished and the linen keeps it a bit more casual. The napkins come in light beige and dark grey.
Washed Linen Cushion Cover
Another great linen purchase from HM Home is the linen pillow cover in light beige. This is brilliant to add as a decorative pillow on a white bed. White cotton and beige linen makes a great mix of textures to bring more depth to the bedroom. It can also work really well on a white or a dark sofa.
Metal Pillar Candle Holder
Another great item for summer, but also for autumn and winter (that will soon be here) is a modern lantern. This is a great item to put next to a front door or in a hallway to welcome people in. You can put it on the floor or a table, I prefer to have them positioned on the floor since it will light up different areas of the room that are not normally lit up. The lantern comes both in gold and black and also in different sizes.
Canvas Cushion Cover
This cushion cover is a great way to bring nature into your home without adding any real plants. The cushion cover is made of a cotton and linen blend can can work really well in both the bedroom and in a kitchen. It can be used as a cushion cover for the summer to help change things up during the different seasons.
Patterned Cushion Cover
This is a true back to the 80s vibe. Pastel and florals are really on their way back into interior design after a time dominated by minimalistic and use of more darker colours. The pillow cover is a linen and cotton blend and will work really well in a girly bedroom or in a feminine living room. Try to mix the pillow with colours colours you find in the pillow, that will really make the room look more put together.
Large Braided Storage Basket
This basket is a great item to add to your home. The seagrass makes a soft a natural edit to your home. You can use it as a laundry basket, a towel basket (or toilet rolls) in your bathroom or perhaps use it for magazines and newspapers. The basket is a great addition to a bathroom or to a living room.
Washed Linen Bedskirt
I really like to make a bedroom to be feminine, warm and cosy. This bedskirt made of linen comes in white and beige. It can soften up the look of a bed, but also hide what’s under a bed that perhaps makes the look of the room more untidy.
Ruffle-Trimmed Pillowcase
A ruffled pillowcase is also another kick back to the 80s. I really love a soft bed and the ruffles can help to make a bed feel more cosey. This cotton pillow case can be used both decoratively and as an everyday pillow. I would recommend to add ruffles to any other pillow cases to complete the look.
Thick Jute Rug
I really like this Jute Rug. It’s raw and real and can make a home feel more grounded and Scandinavian. The texture and colour works well under a white or black sofa to soften the look of the room.
Wooden Frame

Another way to make a room softer is to add wooden frames. These wooden frames work really well with a picture collage, in a hallway or living room. You do not only need to put pictures in these frames, you can also add fabrics, dried flowers or even letters. Try to add items that work with the colours that are already present in the room.
Dinosaur Storage Basket
I really like to add items that are not expected and make you smile. This Dinosaur basket is probably supposed to be in a child’s bedroom, although I think it could also be really great to use in a living room or hallway to make you smile and add some character. Why not, for example, add a few crayons inside so that it reflects the relaxed and fun style?
Stoneware Bowl
This bowl is my favourite from HM Home. It’s a brilliant way to make a setting feel more summery and is also great to put snacks in. Add it to a white table with some wild flowers and it will naturally blend in.
Linen-blend Apron
This linen and cotton blend apron is a great little item for the BBQ season. The apron has a relaxed look and with its linen, beige and white stripes it will certainly soften up your look, giving a casual sommer feel.
Round Rattan Tray
I love a tray and how it can elevate a room. This rattan tray would be really great for use as a drinks tray. You can put it on an ottoman, coffee table or even a chest of drawers. It will make the living room look more welcoming and ensure you’re always ready to host an event.
Jacquard-weave Wool Throw
This throw is a great item to add over a sofa. The colours will work really well with white, beige and black. This throw has a lot of straight lines with contrast colours which can make a room feel more masculine. This can be a great edit if you feel that a living room looks too feminine for your taste and needs some additional balance.
These are my HM Home favourites for summer 2020, what are yours?
