It’s weekend in London. The weather forecast is showing 5 degrees and a grey sky. A perfect day to just be inside, snuggle up in a chair and read a book with a hot cup of coffee. But I’m going out. The craziness of Christmas is taking me to the shopping centre with the tens of thousands of other Londoners and not in a corner of my flat with a book.
If you are lucky enough to be done with your Christmas shopping, here is some inspiration for a reading nook and key factors for it to contain.
Olivia Lovechair from Neptune
1. A Lovechair.
I really like lovechairs as a reading chair, it’s big enough to be two if you want to read something together, or it’s big enough for you to pull your feet up in the chair. I think it’s important to have dedicated chair or area for reading, spaces can get you into a specific mode or focus. If you are used to watching Netflix from the sofa, it will perhaps be difficult to pick up a book from the same corner as you watched the Queen for the last 3 hours.
Book Stand from Argos
2. Book stand.
I really like the idea of a book stand, especially if you are reading large books. In addition, it also makes it easier for having a cup of tea nearby. If you try to find a good book stand for the sofa/lovechair, try to search for a laptop stand. It seems like the demand is bigger for laptops than books, but they are basically the same.
Floor Lamp from John Lewis and Partners.
3. Reading light.
When you want to create a reading space is lighting important. The important part to remember when you pick a lamp for a reading nook is that the light creates a space in th room of it’s own. Therefore, look for a lamp that lights up only the reading corner. An easy way to do this is to pick a lamp and a lamp shade that is facing downward (like the lamp linked above). This will make the reading nook lit up while making the surroundings around dark.
Footstool from Loaf
4. Footstool to rest you feet.
I really like a table where is possible to put your feet up. It lets the space become more soft than a normal table. If you need some table space, you can use footstool as a table with placing a good size tray on it.
An Affair with a House by Bunny Williams
5. The perfect book for you.
The last piece is the perfect book for you. I believe more and more that you should pick up and read a book because you really want to, not because of what others opinions. On my wishlist to my reading nook is “An Affair with a House” by Interior Designer Bunny Williams.
