Since I was very young, can I remember going to Ikea. For me, it was the most wonderful maze with so much to explore around every corner. I loved preparing a wish list when the Ikea magazine that came through the post ahead of my next visit. It was one of the highlights of my year. I remember in my teens, I even managed to use IKEA furniture to change my bedroom into an African theme.
Today, I’m more into a timeless and elegant style, not fast changing interior trends. It is possible to find some amazing base objects at Ikea that can be used for interior design. Also, decor pieces that can make a home feel luxurious and elegant while not breaking the bank.
Here are 10 of my favourite Elegant Ikea Hacks:
1. Built in Bookcase for the stylish Home Office
I really love this home office concept with a built in book shelf from Southern Revivals. This truly makes a home office look very well put together. I really like the lighting that has been added over the shelves and the wall colour combination over the shelves. This brings more depth to the room.
2. Built in Bookcase in the Living Room
Another example of using Billy Bookcase is this concept from A Beautiful Mess. In this example, they have used the same size on all the bookshelves. They have also added a base to the bottom to make the bookshelves flow from floor to celling.
3. A decorative Bookcase
A more decorative edit of the Billy Bookshelves from The Makerista. Here, the Billy Bookshelves have added a lining between the bookshelves and on the top of the shelves.
4. Minimalistic Bar Cart
One Ikea Hack that is very easily achieved – making a Kallax Shelf into a bar cart. The only thing you need to do is to add some feet, or some wheels and some amazing bar props. Elegant and minimalistic.
5. Dining Room Storage
Another great hack is this Dining Room storage from Petal + Ply. The main edit is to add a back wall to the Cubby storage and adding labels under every shelf room.
6. Classy and Elegant Storage
This hack from the Pink Dream is easy to replicate if you buy a couple of overlays and handles. So little effort, but such a great impact to the look of the Kallax Shelves.
7. Cloud Book Shelves
I really like this little hack for a nursery. You can simply add a cloud to the Ikea Bookshelf – appealing for young children.
8. Home Office Desk
If you want a home office with a desk adapted to the room, you can add a couple of dressers combined with a wood counter-top. The benefit with the wood counter-top is that this can be ordered and cut by Ikea (normally used for kitchens).
9. Dipped Stools
If you just want to add some colour to a room in a stylish way, painting some stools can be a good option. I really like the “dipped” colour approach where it looks like the stool has been dipped into a bucket of paint. You just need some paint and some tape.
10. From Table to Ottoman
Another way to make a home more elegant and classy is to add a ottoman. I really like this approach where a table has been transformed into an ottoman. To get started you need some foam, fabric, buttons and spray paint. A really nice edit to a plain looking table.
