I love adding white to a room. It can easily make the room seem larger and lighter than what it was before. Most of the times, we see white interior design when it’s minimalistic, Scandinavian, modern and perhaps shabby chic. But white can also be the main colour in more of a traditional or classical room. And it’s especially this combination I really love. A British Scandinavian mix.
Here are some examples of mixing traditional styles like Georgian and Victorian with Scandinavian (white and wood):
From Veranda Magazine
A beautiful room with high ceiling and large windows. I really like how they have added a carpet that has a natural colour to bring in the Scandinavian and wooden colour. They have also balanced it well with adding a Great Wall and white ceiling and bookshelves. The furniture is in the same colour scheme – wooden and grey.

Here’s an another example with a wooden furniture. The grey wall makes the white items on the cupboard stand more out and connects the door and the ceiling with the decoration.

This has a bit more colour added to the mix, but still keeps it quite minimalistic and Scandinavian. The white on the wall, the natural colours in the furniture makes it easier to add a bit of colour – this picture operates in a harmonious colour scheme with blues and greens.

It is also possible to add darker colours to the mix and still keep the look light. In the picture above, you can see that they have added a couple of dark pieces to the room. Make sure when you do this that you spread them evenly to the room so it blends with all the whites.

A white traditional room can also have some colour to the mix. The picture with the red chair has a lot of different colours, mostly in greens and reds (complimentary colour scheme). But since the items are small and have patterns that also has neutrals and whites – it’s able to blend well with the whites and neutrals.

You can also add gold to the mix, with lamps and frames – but keep it Scandinavian with some wooden pieces like a rattan basket or another rattan item. Here are some examples of my Amazon Favourites.

Make sure that you add another type of white or natural on the walls if you have a lot of items and furniture that are white. This will make the furniture and walls play different parts in the eye sight.

Don’t be too afraid of adding wooden furniture without paint to the room. In this case can a all white wall work well to make it stand out even more.
Have you ever tried to add more of a British traditional with Scandinavian style?
