I have always liked the idea of mixing different rooms to make life more easier and convenient. An example of this is to add a coffee bar or drink bar to a living room or a home office. How great would it be to offer something to drink without leaving the room and the conversation?
So what do you need to make a bar at home?
1. A corner or a closet
Find a corner or a closet in a room that works well to add a small bar. It can also be as a part of a counter or a closet. If you want to be advanced, check if there is possible to add water to the bar (a kitchen and bathroom close by will make it easier to add a sink). Adding a small fridge can also be possible to add under the bar if you want to serve something chilled.
If you are more on a budget, you can achieve some of the same bar expereince with a bar cart. Then you do not need to do any adjustments to the room, you just need to buy the cart.

2. Understand the use of the bar.
What do you want to serve, when will it be in the week and how many will it be there? If you are serving a lot of people at the same time or they have different preferences, you will need more room to different glasses or mugs. If it’s more of an evening bar, will lighting be more important than a daily coffee bar.
Understanding the use of the bar and the room can also influence how visible the bar is in the room. If a room have different use cases with and with out a bar, will it be convenient to be able to hide the bar (ex. with doors – like a closet). This will make the room feel more thought through and fitted for you lifestyle.
3. Let the design of the bar work with the room.
A bar in a living room or in a office works well when it feels like a part of the rest of the room. Make sure to use the colour schemes that is already in the room and the type of design that is already used. You are not creating a small kitchen in a living room, you are adding a furniture to a room that already has existing furniture.

4. Add the needed equipment.
Make sure the you have what’s needed to make the drink of choice. The point of a bar in a living room is to be able to continue to serve drinks with entertaining. This can be a coffee machine, milk steamer, two sizes of coffee mugs, milk, spoons and napkins. Or it can be liquor of choice, 4 types of glasses, sodas, straws and ice.
5. Add some personality and treats to the mix.
Make the bar feel likes it’s yours with adding some items, like a picture, a vase with flowers or a jar with biscuits. A small way to stand as a great host
