Decorating walls can sometimes seem like a daunting task and one often put off behind a long list of other priorities when you first move into a home.
Although, if done correctly, it can really take your interior design to the next level. To get some ideas going for your wall décor, here are some top tips:
1. Frames
Frames are probably the most common way to decorate walls. But you need to take a couple of things into consideration. Firstly, understand the space on the wall and the surroundings. Is there enough space in the room for frames on the wall? What colours will work best? Can it blend in with the furniture and the background? Or do you need to keep it simple with the same colour and the same size?

If there’s a need for order in the room (ex. small spaces), I would recommend to hang frames on a straight line. I really like frames that use the same frames and hang in a straight line – it looks clean and sophisticated.

One way to achieve a streamlined look with your picture frames is to use black and white images. This will enable the pictures to appear complimentary, regardless if they where taken on completely different times and in different surroundings.

2. Dried flowers
Another alternative decoration to picture frames are dried flowers. This can create more depth to the wall since there are a lot of different shapes and sizes of flower. In the example below, the dried flowers are attached to a wreath – but it’s just your imagination that will stop you from what you can actually do with decorating the walls with dried flowers.

3. A grid of clipboards
A very cheap way to make your wall stand out, is to create a wall of clipboards. What is great about this idea is that you can choose to re-assemble them into different combinations, providing a great way to change the design based on your mood.

4. Decor with a cabinet or bookshelves
You do not necessary need to hang anything on the wall if you can utilize a bookshelf or a cabinet. This gives great depth to a room and also contributes towards building character. Something that works well are bookshelves built into the room – this can make a plain room look very sophisticated, particularly with some choice books and pictures.

5. Frame a scarf
If you can’t afford art or you are more into fashion than paintings, framing a scarf can be really nice alternative. This could be a good idea to re-use an old favourite for your or someone you’re close with. If you have a Hermes scarf in a draw that you never use, perhaps instead you could repurpose this and try framing it on your wall?
