I’ve always dreamed of having a proper room dedicated as a home office. Somewhere I can work productively away from the office and where everything could be stored and organised in an efficient way. It is important for me that this room is also welcoming and warm so that others can enjoy the space and it can also be used to wind down after a long day working.
For me, an ideal Home office has a sofa, a large desk, bookshelves with lighting and a small drinks area that can be used for coffee on weekdays and champagne on special days of celebration!
So here are 10 examples of how a long basement room potentially could be styled into a dream home office.
- Two sofas facing each other surrounded by built in bookshelves can create an enjoyable space for both focused work time and relaxation. With this concept, the room is split into two using the built in bookshelves with a door built into it that hides space at the very back of the room. At the back of the room there are two desks on each side, enabling two people to do focused work. These two spaces ensure there is room for both focus work time and relaxation for regular breaks or even space to take calls.
2. Two desks built into the bookshelves. On the other side of the room is a sofa with an ottoman to put your feet up. To the left, a bar shelf with coffee and Champagne.
3. Desks at the front of the room both facing away from each other and to the wall. Further into the room there are 4 sofa chairs facing each other to create a collaborative or relaxing area. The chairs are surrounded by bookshelves and a coffee bar counter at the end of the room.
4. One desk at the end of the table facing the entrance with the window behind to let in natural light, critical to work productively. In the middle of the room there are two sofas of the same size, both facing each other with two ottomans in support. Finally, at the front of the room there is a round table for collaboration space. The two long walls are covered with bookshelves, creating a space to inspire learning and calm.
5. At the back of the room, the two desks are facing each other surrounded by built in bookshelves. This is a perfect set up if you are regularly co-working with someone at home. At the front of the room, there are two equally size sofas facing each other with two ottomans.
6. Furthest into the room, in this design there are two desks that are built into the bookshelves and a coffee counter at the end of the room. At the front of the room, the two sofas facing each other with two ottomans between them. This design creates a space for two and offers symmetry to the room.
7. Another option with two desks facing each other with bookshelves surrounding the desks. A coffee bar counter at the end of the room with easy. At the front of the room, there are two same size sofas with two ottomans.
8. At the back of the room, one desk facing the entrance, surrounded by bookshelves. In the front of the room, 4 sofa chairs facing each other with a round table.
9. At the back of the room, one desk facing the entrance, surrounded by bookshelves. At the front of the room, two same size sofas facing each other with a round table. A coffee back counter placed close to the seating area.
10. A simpler style if you are on a budget and cannot get access to built in furniture or fitted desks. In the middle of the room there are two sofas facing each other with an ottoman. Bookshelves covering one of the walls and a coffee bar counter at the very front of the room.
